Day 9 - 9/12/07 - Vienna
Our first full day in Vienna. Wow! A truly regal and spectacular city, with a very romantic feel to it. We began our day at Cafe Tirolerhuf for coffee and delicious plum cake. It was the perfect fuel for our busy day.
We hopped on the tram to take a tour around the Ringstrasse of Vienna (essentially a ring that goes all the way around Vienna). It was great because it gave us an overall feel of the city. We got off at the Parliment which is magnificent, and after a couple of snapshots, walked down to the City Hall. We saw Vienna University and the Votive Church (which was a church built after a failed assassination attempt on Emperor Franz Josef).
We then found the Volksgarten, a beautiful rose garden close to the Hofburg (which is the Austrian emperor's palace). After some quick lunch of Austrian hot dogs (filled with tasty cheese), we headed into the gorgeous palace. A magnificent building with lots of tributes and memorials to all of the great leaders of Austria. We toured the Imperial Apartments, which is a great collection of the royal family's silver and gifts, but also the actual rooms and dwellings of the royal family. Very lavish and amazing. We also went into the Hofburg Treasury, which is a collection of all of the family's jewels. A piece of wood was on display which was noted as a piece of the actual cross from Jesus' crucifiction - unbelievable. As if we did not see enough amazing history, we finished our afternoon with a long walk through the Kunsthistorisches Museum, a extravagent collection of artwork belonging to the Haspurg family. Seeing all this amount of culture and history in one place is awesome!
After our long day of touring, we heading out to a traditional Austrian Beisl called Spatzennest. The food was fantastic, and the service even better. After our hearty meal, we topped it off with a couple of beirs from Cenimeter, a bar that was full of locals and lots of laughs!

Little heads up. Not all of your pics open to larger ones. but it looks like you are having fun. and the beers look like they are big and pack a hefty wallop. Thats what Im talkin about.
